BSP (British Standard Pipe) thread is a type of thread commonly used in the United Kingdom and other countries that were formerly part of the British Empire. It is used for screw threads on pipes and fittings, and is based on the Whitworth thread form.

BSP threads come in two types: BSPP (parallel) and BSPT (tapered). BSPP threads have a constant diameter throughout their length, while BSPT threads taper slightly towards the end. The tapered thread is used in joints that need to be tightened to form a seal, such as in pipe fittings. BSPP is used in joints that rely on a sealant or a gasket to seal the joint, such as in plumbing and fluid systems.

BSP thread sizes are specified by the thread’s nominal diameter and the thread pitch, which is the distance between threads. They are measured in inches for pipe fittings and in millimeters for hydraulic fittings.

It is important to note that BSP threads are not interchangeable with other types of pipe threads, such as NPT (National Pipe Taper) and NPSM (National Pipe Straight Mechanical) used in North America.
